McFly on verge of signing US record deal

McFly have revealed that they are on the verge of signing a US record deal.

The band explained that the success of their recent four shows Stateside has piqued the interest of a number of US labels.

"They were the first American live shows we’d done in nine years, and all four sold out straight away," Tom Fletcher told the Daily Star.

"But we don’t have a record deal there. We wanted to get people down to watch us so they can see how McFly are in their mid-20s."

He added: “We got a lot of interest from labels. They are waiting to hear the new stuff.

"It’s weird because we don’t know how we might fit in over there now. Are we more Maroon 5 or One Direction these days?"

McFly will release their new retrospective collection Memory Lane: The Best Of McFly in the UK on November 26.

MCFLY have landed their own TV special to be screened before next month’s X Factor final.

The hour-long show will see Dougie, Danny, Harry and Tomperform some of their greatest hits for a studio audience.

The band will also be doingcomedy sketches about Harry’s Strictly stint and Dougie’s time on I’m A Celeb.

Tom did The Cube of course, but I’m not sure that was as memorable.

A telly snitch told me: “McFly are still really popular after all these years so ITV producers jumped at the chance to sign them up.

“It’ll be a great hour of music, comedy and some celeb guests.”

I’m told the cheeky four-piece will also be playing pranks on their famous friends.

The special, which was given the green light after a meeting earlier this month, is scheduled to air on December 9 at 7pm.

My source added: “To get a slot just before the X Factor final is a pretty big deal. If it gets good ratings there’s a chance the lads could even be given their own series.

“Strictly and jungle viewers love them, so ITV have big expectations for this.”

McFly: “One Direction Are More Rock ‘N’ Roll Than Us”

McFly have insisted that boyband One Direction are far “more rock ‘n’ roll” than they are.

The group - who have dressed up as OAPs for a shoot with Heat magazine - told the publication how they partied with 1D in the US, with member Tom Fletcher unable to keep up with Irish heartthrob, Niall Horan.

Fletcher revealed: “They’re probably more rock ‘n’ roll than we are. Niall’s a funny guy.”

Harry Judd said: “Me and Danny had a late night with Niall. I went to bed at 3.30am… Tom was on his balcony and Niall said, ‘Tom, come play some songs!’ You were angry at the situation, because you wanted to go to bed.”

Fletcher then confessed: “I wanted to chill out,” to which Judd added: “But instead you went, [puts on a granddad voice] ‘No, I’m going to bed!’”

The full interview appears in this week’s Heat magazine, on sale now.

McFly also hit the headlines this week after denying reports suggesting that they gave their “s**t” songs to One Direction for their LP Take Me Home - with Tom rubbishing the claims on Twitter.

During an interview with The Metro, Fletcher was quoted as saying: “We just worked on a couple of songs on their new album. They came over to do a writing session and I had a few song ideas.

"It’s hard when you’re writing for someone else. You obviously always want to do your best work, but sometimes you write and have a song idea and you’re like, ‘Oh, it’s so good I want to keep it for us’."

Bandmate Danny Jones asked Fletcher: “You sent that slightly s**tter one, didn’t ya?”

Tom then added: “So I played them a few song ideas and they went for one of the others. I was like, yes!”

However, Tom went on to clarify the comments on Twitter, writing: “So, the stuff in the press today about us giving One Direction our ‘s**t’ songs is obviously completely false.

"What Danny said was obviously a joke. We would never, NEVER, give anyone ‘s**t’ songs and as I clearly say in the interview ‘You obviously always want to do your best work’.

"In fact all 3 songs I’ve written for 1D are some of my favourites I’ve EVER written and I genuinely would have kept them for mcfly but I have never, and will never give anyone second rate songs."

He concluded: “How would that ever be good for me as a song writer? And the most important point of all is…I’ve never written a s**t song ;)

"Anyway, if you want to hear the song we did for 1D then it’s ‘I Would’ track 9. Hope you like it."

McFly Dougie Poynter: ‘I thought I had a brain tumour’

McFly star Dougie Poynter has revealed how he became convinced that he was suffering from a brain tumour.

The I’m a Celebrity winner said he started to “panic” after a friend warned him that his headaches and vomiting could be something more severe.

"One guy said it was a tumour but the doctor told me you don’t get headaches from tumours," he said.

"I think it’s because I’ve got a really small head and my brain is getting bigger because I’m just far too intelligent."

He continued: “I’ve been suppressing it with Nurofen. I woke up the other morning, took some tablets and then threw them up ten minutes later. Then I started to panic: ‘Oh f**k, it’s a tumour’.”

Poynter and his bandmates are currently preparing to release Memory Lane: The Best of McFly, their second greatest hits album after a self-confessed premature 2007 compilation.

"We ignore the first one and pretend it didn’t happen," Tom Fletcher said. "It was too early in our career to justify it and we didn’t want to do it at the time - we were made to.

"It’s been a whole year of reminiscing - we’ve brought the autobiography [Unsaid Things] out and it feels like a nice time to look back and reflect on our career.”

Memory Lane: The Best of McFly is out on November 26. It is preceded by their new single ‘Love Is Easy’, which lands on Sunday (November 18).

McFly’s Tom Fletcher denies giving 1 Direction “shit” songs

"I’ve never written a s**t song": McFly’s Tom rants on Twitter at "false" reports he gave One Direction ‘sh*tter’ tracks.

He claims he was joking with bandmate Danny when asked about keeping the ‘better’ tunes for McFly and said he would “never give anyone second rate songs” HE’S LIVID.

McFly frontman Tom Fletcher has denied giving One Direction “sh*t” songs and keeping the ‘better’ tracks for his own band. He criticised a newspaper story on Twitter this morning after they printed a story as fact, while the singer-songwriter claims the quotes were obviously a joke. Talking to Metro, Tom said: “We just worked on a couple of songs on their new album. They came over to do a writing session and I had a few song ideas. “It’s hard when you’re writing for someone else. You obviously always want to do your best work, but sometimes you write and have a song idea and you’re like, ‘Oh, it’s so good I want to keep it for us’.” Bandmate Danny Jones asked Tom: “You sent that slightly s**tter one, didn’t ya?” They wouldn’t be so cruel, would they? He added: “So I played them a few song ideas and they went for one of the others. I was like, yes!” But Tom obviously feels he’s been somewhat misquoted and denies the accusations. Taking to Twitter to vent his anger, he posted: “So, the stuff in the press today about us giving One Direction our “sh*t” songs is obviously completely false. “What Danny said was obviously a joke. We would never, NEVER, give anyone “shit” songs and as I clearly say in the interview: “You obviously always want to do your best work”. “In fact all 3 songs I’ve written for 1D are some of my favourites I’ve EVER written and I genuinely would have kept them for mcfly but I have never, and will never give anyone second rate songs. They would still sell millions of records if the album was 90mins of Harry Styles doing armpit fart noises. Rex “How would that ever be good for me as a song writer? And the most important point of all is…I’ve never written a shit song ;)” Tom wrote the songs I Want (which featured on 1D’s debut album Up All Night) and I Would for new album Take Me Home. There’s a little pattern… we’re no songwriters but we reckon the next song he contributes to One Direction might be called I Will.

McFly release their second greatest hits album Memory Lane: The Best of McFly on November 26.
